Fall 2020, Sophomore year
Solo Project
Project description:
The project is a 1650 square foot condominium located in the Black Building in downtown Fargo. I began with the building shell (which was provided to us) and had to determine all interior wall locations, lighting systems, HVAC, Power and communication, and fire suppression systems in the interior of the condominium.
The apartment was to be designed for Clark and Ava Martin who are downsizing after becoming empty nesters. Both of them have a list of needs and wants for the space and would like the whole place to be designed in the lavish Art Deco design style while incorporating their family heirloom and local artwork throughout. Multiple custom elements including drapery, light fixtures, and a kitchen island must be included in the space as well.
Clark and Ava want to grow old in this space so ADA Accessibility was a must when designing the whole space bust specifically the bathrooms and kitchen to make them wheelchair accessible and ready for any challenges old age might throw.

My design statement:
The Martin residence is an Art Deco-inspired condominium for Clark and Ava Martin. The condominium will include a chef-style kitchen big enough for both to cook together. A large living area is also included to give the Martins plenty of space to entertain their guests along with an office for the two of them to work from home. The whole place will have a very luxurious and glamorous feel as well as being cozy and comfortable while also trying to be sustainable and building with universal design in mind. The Martin’s parents will be able to visit comfortably and the Martins will be able to adjust with the condominium as they age as the space is designed to accommodate a wheelchair, walker, and any physical impairments one might have.
